To celebrate our 50th anniversary as a choir, TCS and friends travelled to Rome in October 2017 with music, merriment and magic in mind. We believe we achieved these three objectives with great gusto !
We started off with an Evensong Service in All Saints, Anglican Church, near Piazza del Popolo. This very welcoming church and congregation really helped us to enjoy singing this lovely music.
We then participated at Mass in San Clemente Basilica. This was a truly enjoyable day not least due to the enthusiasm and warmth of Prior, Fr. Tom McCarthy, OP. His personal and knowledgable tour of the 12th century basilica, over the 4th century basilica and down further to the 1st century Roman crypt, was, for many, the highlight of the trip. He allowed us sing 'Locus Iste' to savour the ecoustics of the 4th century area.
The final musical performance was our participation in the concelebrated Mass at St. Peter's Basilica. An awesome venue and an occasion to be remembered.
Outside the musical experiences, we had an absolute ball. We saw the usual sights, Colliseum, Sistine Chapel, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Forum, Borghese, pickpockets churches, paintings, hawkers, great punky guides, sunshine and Ophelia. We followed the maxim 'eat, drink and be merry' to the letter. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to the next outing and bonding session.
